Eight Bangladeshi migrants tragically drowned off the coast of Tunisia while attempting to reach Europe by boat from Zuwarah, Libya. The victims have been identified as Sajal, Nayan Biswas, Mamun Seikh, Kazi Sajeeb, and Kaisar from Rajoir upazila of Madaripur district, and Rifat, Russell, and Imrul Kayes Apon from the Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj district.

The bodies of the deceased were repatriated to Bangladesh on May 4, 2023, following the efforts of the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, which worked closely with Tunisian authorities to complete the necessary procedures, including autopsies, identification, and the issuance of death and medical certificates.

A case was filed by the father of one of the victims, Sajal Bairagi, alleging that his son and seven others were lured and trafficked illegally by two brokers, Yubraj Kazi and Mosharof Kazi, in exchange for a large sum of money. Within two days of the case being filed, two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.
