Rajasthan Police Arrest 6 in Kota for Alleged Indian Coast Guard Exam Question Paper Leak

The Rajasthan police have arrested six individuals in Kota for their alleged involvement in leaking the question paper of the Indian Coast Guard Examination Personal Test (CGEPT). The arrests were made after the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.

According to the police, the accused were charging between Rs 10 and Rs 15 lakh per leak to provide the exam paper to candidates. During the arrests, the police seized mobile phones, a car, and other electronic devices containing the leaked exam papers and admit cards. The investigation has revealed that the accused were using rented computer labs to facilitate the paper leak.

The six accused, who are residents of Churu, Jhunjhunu, and Haryana, were found in possession of admit cards, exam question papers, and other materials related to the CGEPT-02/2024 exam scheduled for April 20 and 21, 2024. They allegedly charged Rs 10-15 lakh per candidate to solve the paper by hacking into the computers of candidates using remote access apps like RealVNC Viewer and Anydesk.

The police seized the accused's mobile phones, a car, and other evidence from the Rajrani Tower IT Park in Kota. The arrests were made on April 19, before the accused could carry out the leak for the scheduled exam dates.

Why this matters: The incident highlights the ongoing issue of exam paper leaks in India, which undermines the integrity and fairness of competitive exams. It also raises concerns about the security measures in place to prevent such leaks and the need for stricter monitoring and enforcement.

The accused have been booked under the Rajasthan Prevention of Unfair Means in Public Examination Recruitment Act 2022, the IT Act, and sections of the Indian Penal Code. The police are investigating the case further to identify any other members of the gang involved in the paper leak.
