Russian Missile Strikes Hit Educational Institution in Odesa, Ukraine, Killing 4 and Injuring 28

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reacted to the Russian Missile Strikes that hit an educational institution in Odesa on Monday, April 29, 2024. The attack killed four and injured 28. Zelenskyy, in a post on his X (formerly Twitter), described the attack as a Russian guided aerial bomb strike and sent his condolences to the families of the victims.

"Russia's regular missile attacks, as well as the occupier's efforts to destroy as many Ukrainian positions as possible, can all be stopped. And Russia's offensive plans can be thwarted," he posted. "For this, Ukrainian strength must be backed up by sufficient support from partners: "Patriots" that need to be in Ukraine now, the 155-mm caliber that must sound as confident as possible on the frontlines, and weapons with sufficient range to destroy Russian logistics."

He urged Ukraine's allies to join the country in making "every effort to achieve our goals, because these goals are shared by everyone in the world who despises terrorists."

The attack was conducted by an Iskander-M ballistic missile with a cluster warhead, which are harder to intercept. Pictures posted online showed an ornate building close to the seafront ablaze and smoke billowing skyward. Odesa has been a frequent target of Russian missile and drone attacks, particularly on port infrastructure.

Why this matters: The Russian strike underscores the ongoing conflict and the impact on innocent lives. This incident highlights the need for international support and efforts to end the violence and protect civilians caught in the crossfire.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has continued to urge Ukraine's allies to provide more support to stop Russia's regular missile attacks and destroy Ukrainian positions.
