Nasarawa Police Arrest Fake EFCC Officials for Robbing Students and Abducting ND II Student

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested four individuals who posed as operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and carried out a robbery targeting students at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa. The suspects also abducted an ND II student named Adudu Kingsley during the incident, which occurred on April 17, 2024, at around 1545hrs at Samakwe Lodge behind Government College in Nasarawa LGA.

According to the police, the suspects used a green Toyota Corolla with registration number Abuja YAB 509 TT for the robbery and abduction. Upon receiving a distress call, police operatives pursued the suspects and set up roadblocks. The suspects abandoned their vehicle and the abducted student before fleeing the scene. One suspect was apprehended by an angry mob and beaten before being rescued by the police. However, he later died while receiving medical treatment.

Further investigation led to the arrest of three additional members of the syndicate, identified as Hyelda Aliyu Ibrahim, Henry Patrick Okwu, and Shuaibu Abubakar. The police recovered fake EFCC ID cards, mobile phones, and the operational vehicle used in the crime. The suspects have confessed to being part of a syndicate responsible for terrorizing student areas in Keffi and Nasarawa LGA.

Why this matters: The arrest of these fake EFCC officials highlights the ongoing issue of criminal impersonation and the targeting of vulnerable student populations. It emphasizes the need for increased vigilance and collaboration between law enforcement agencies and educational institutions to ensure the safety and security of students.

The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, has assured that the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution upon conclusion of the investigation. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further scrutiny, and efforts are being made to apprehend the remaining suspect who is still at large. "The Nasarawa State Police Command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, including students," the Commissioner stated.
